Stolperstein für Ludwig Stössel
The »Stumbling Block Committee« (List of participants) – a non-partisan platform of over 400 people – with support from the city of Salzburg, brought the internationally acclaimed project STOLPERSTEINE (German for »stumbling blocks« or »memory stones«) by the German artist Gunter Demnig to Salzburg in 2007. On August 17, 2020, 28 stumbling blocks were laid in Salzburg, including a stumbling block in memory of the Lockenhaus-born actor Ludwig Stössel.
In Lockenhaus, no memorial plaque commemorates the famous actor, who was born in Lockenhaus in 1883. In later years Ludwig Stössel still felt like a Burgenlander in his new home, as he told in a radiointerview. Requests and encouragement to the community leaders of Lockenhaus to set this sign of remembrance of a character actor from Lockenhaus, who is well-known in the German-speaking theater world and very popular in Hollywood, have unfortunately been unsuccessful so far.
