Europäischer Tag der Jüdischen Kultur 2020 (EDJC)

The European Day of Jewish Culture will have its premiere in Burgenland this year.

A film premiere!

In some villages in Burgenland, where there was a Jewish population until 1938, interviews were made in the past months (May/June/July 2020). People from the villages, who deal with the Jewish culture of their hometown and do remembrance work, gave information about the former synagogues, the Jewish cemeteries and the demographic development of the Jewish population in the village.

In addition to the "seven communities" (Sheva Kehilot) in northern and central Burgenland (Deutschkreutz, Eisenstadt, Frauenkirchen, Kittsee, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach and Mattersburg), which were under the protection of the Esterhazy family, and the three communities in southern Burgenland (Rechnitz, Schlaining and Güssing), which were under the protection of the Batthyány family, the communities of Gattenburg, Oberwart and Lockenhaus are also involved in the project.

Starting 6 September 2020
